Do you ever look in your wardrobe and think I have nothing to wear and have no money to buy anything. I do all the time. In reality I have loads of clothes. My boyfriend says I have too many. Probably because I have a lot more storage space than him. I would say 3 times more. He did move in with me so he is lucky with what he has got. I tend to wear the same clothes all the time and rotate these and as a result I get bored with what I wear.
I have a wardrobe and 12 drawers full of clothes. I tend to just wear the clothes that are at the top of my drawers and jump out at me in my wardrobe. I am really needing to save money at the moment and pay off some of my debts that I have accumulated over the years, I can not do this by spending money on clothes. Instead I need to make the most of what I have got. The only way I can do this is by emptying my wardrobe and clothes to see what I have got and reorganise them.
As the weather has been great this year it has given me the opportunity to wear clothes that I have put away for summer.
Please see below a number of tips about reorganising your wardrobe to make the most of the clothes that you have got.
- Sort your wardrobe and clothes into seasons
As I have limited storage space I have bought some storage bags that you can place clothes in and then suck the air out of these. This helps you store more items. In the summer I place most of my winter clothes in these and vice versa in the winter. As we can not be guaranteed the weather in the summer in the United Kingdom I leave a number of clothes that can be worn in any season. By organising my clothes this way it gives me more space which lets me see what clothes that I actually have. Please see below a link some storage bags on amazon. There are other places that you can buy the bags but I added a link for convenience.
2. Organise your wardrobe
It is important to organise your wardrobe then it is easier to find the clothes that you have in there. I put the clothes into various sections of my wardrobe. I put all my skirts together, trousers together etc. I then colour code the clothes. The reason I do this is if I want to wear a black top they are all located together. It’s amazing all the clothes that I have that didn’t realise as they were buried in the depths of my wardrobe.
3. Don’t buy clothes and keep them for a special occasion.
If you are anything like me you buy clothes and never wear them, I often buy clothes and think that these clothes will be nice for when I go out. As I do not go out much they stay in my wardrobe and never get worn. There are obviously some clothes that you buy that can’t be worn other than going out or for a special occasion. You can dress down a top by wearing it with jeans or a dress by wearing with flip flops. I think this is a great way of maximising your wardrobe.
4. Organise your shoes, flip flops, boots etc
I have far too many shoes. I would love to be one of those people who have them all in boxes in their wardrobe, but I have no room. I keep my special and expensive shoes in boxes in my wardrobe. Other than that I keep all my heals, flats and boots together. I have also bought a plastic storage box and I put in the box my flip flops and summer shoes and can easily pick a pair out when I want to wear any,
Once you have organised your clothes and shoes you have a better idea of what you have to wear. If you still can’t find anything why don’t you sell any clothes that you don’t wear anymore on eBay or Vinted. I have posted a guide on selling on eBay to help you if you need it. I have sold clothes in the past but regretted it and was too hasty. Make sure you only sell anything that you are certain that you do not like anymore. I also have clothes in my wardrobe that don’t fit me anymore and I am going to go in a diet so I can fit into them. If they have been there for a few years you are probably never going to fit into them. Why not sell these.
I hope this guide will be of help to you. It’s simple advice but I now have loads of outfits that I forgot and have more outfits to wear without buying any clothes.
P.S I know I shouldn’t but there is a sale at Miss Selfridgr if you really can’t resist.
